Beacon Journal Fielder, Retired UF Labor Director William E. "Ed" Fielder, director of the United Fund died Sunday in City Born in Point Pleasant, W. Mr. Fielder came to Akron in 1918 and was employed at Goodrich, Lyons Rubber Co. and 1 India Tire Rubber Co.

In 1928 he returned to Goodrich and was active in early years of labor organization there. He served as vice president of the URW local at Goodrich, and was appointed head of a union committee to obtain MR. FIELDER membership for a labor representative on the United Community Chest (UCC) board. In 1945 he was appointed UCC's labor participation director, and held that post and similar one with the United Fund until he retired in 1964. He was a member of the Adoniram Lodge 517, He leaves his wife Mabel; daughter Mrs.

Evelyn Zollinger of Stow; son Roy in Minnesota; sisters Mrs. Isa Donhoe of Findlay, Mrs. Clara Dye of Yellow Springs, and Mrs. Allie Carman of Addison, 0., and five grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m.

Wednesday in the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Masonic services will be at 7 p.m.

Speakman, 66, of 1024 Chalker st. died Sunday in Green Cross Hospital after a long illness. Born in Slocum, Mrs. Speakman lived in Akron 50 years. She was a member of the Billow Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and the Gold Star Mothers Club.

She leaves her husband James; brother A. W. Miller of Geneva, and sisters Mrs. W. C.

Summerfield of St. Petersburg, and Mrs. B. G. Stokes of Dothan, Ala.

Marguerite Sanner, 65, of Los Angeles, a former Cuyahoga Falls resident, will be at 1 p. m. Wednesday at McGowan-Reid Funeral Home with burial in Chestnut Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Sanner died Friday at her home in Los Angeles.

Born in the Falls, Mrs. Sanner left here in 1944 to move to Washington, D. where her late husband, Roy was employed as a painter in the Navy yards. She had lived in Los Angeles since the death of her husband in 1961. She leaves a son, Donald of Los Angeles; a daughter, Mrs.

Mary Hinkle of Rockville, sister, Mrs. Lulu Bean of St. Paul, six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m.

Thomas Hospital. Billow Falls Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Akron A OBITUARIES Monday, May 8, 1967 Joseph V. O'Connor, Lumber Co. Founder CUYAHOGA FALLS and founder of the O'Connor today in Akron City Hospital Mr.

O'Connor, of 1301 Front; was the last surviving charter member of the Falls Rotary Club. The club called him "Mr. Rotary" and established a "JoV. O'Connor Scholarship Fund" in his honor several years ago. Money from the fund is used to help nurses take training in therapy for work with crippled children.

Born in Marietta, he formed O'Connor Lumber in 1916 when he and William Schraegle went into partnership. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Moose Club. For many years, Mr. O'Connor worked with various civic improvement groups which later evolved into the Falls Chamber of Commerce.

He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Mary Cullen of Cleveland Heights; sons, William and John, both of the Falls; sister, Mrs. Margaret Miller of Mt. Joy, and 10 grandchildren. Friends may call at Carr Falls Funeral Home after 2 p.

Friends may call at the Carr Memorial Home from 7 to tonight. LILLIAN KASTOR Lillian May Kastor, 89, formerly of 120 S. Maple died Sunday in the Cooper Nursing Home after a long illness. Born in Tuscarawas County, Miss Kastor lived in Akron 65 years. She was a practical nurse for the Fair Oaks Villa nursing home until it became the Summit County Receiving Hospital.

She then did private nursing for a number of years. She leaves a sister Mrs. Mayme Meier of Freelandville, Ind. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery.

Jet lived in Akron more than 30 years. He was a truck driver for All-Ohio Express more than 20 years. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 555. Mr. Jet leaves his wife Pearl; stepdaughters Mrs.

Two-Truck Crash Kills Area Man Special to The Beacon Journal JACKSONVILLE, 111. A Consolidated Freightways relief driver from Springfield Twp. was killed early Sunday in a collision of two semi-trailers near here. Dead on arrival at Jacksonville Holy Cross Hospital was Charles D. Starks, 36, of 1269 Harts Landing dr.

His spinal column was severed. The driver of the Consolidated Freightways truck, Burl Blevins, 41, of 2379 Giffels Cuyahoga Falls, suffered arm, leg and hand fractures and lacerations. He is in Holy Cross Hospital in fair condition. ILLINOIS STATE Police said Starks, father of four, was sleeping at the time of the collision. Blevins was eastbound on U.S.

36 when a truck driven by Clifford Duncan of Montgomery, Ala. turned off Ill. 104 into Blevins' path. Duncan also was hospitalized and is listed in "good" condition. He suffered multiple rib fractures.

Starks' body was moved today from Jacksonville to Springfield, Tenn. for services and burial. 3 Injured In 2 Auto Accidents Two weekend traffic accidents hospitalized three Akron residents. Listed as "critical" in Children's Hospital is Charles Sehika, 11, of 396 Morningview av. Police said a car driven by his mother, Mrs.

Mary Sehika, 42, struck a tree at 396 Newton st. about 11 a. m. Sunday. Mrs.

Sehika is "satisfactory" in City Hospital. The accident is under investigation. Cleon Bibbs, 20, of 19 Euclid is "serious" in Akron General Hospital after, police said, his car struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Michael 0. Johnson, 19, of 591 Edgewood Sunday morning. Born in Greenville, Mrs. Hamilton lived in Akron 43 years. She was a member of the Helping Hand Bible Class at Goss Memorial Church, and was superintendent of the Crade Roll department there.

She was also a member of the Missionary Women's, Sewing Circle and the Fort-Nightly Club of Kenmore. Miss Hamilton was a volunteer with the Multiple Sclerosis Society and was active in the Haven of Rest Rescue Mission. SHE IS the widow of Dr. Gerald W. Hamilton, former Ken- more physician.

She leaves sons Gerald cf Neenah, Howard of Norton Village, and James of Newberg, N. daughter Mrs. Margaret Gay of Akron; sisters Mrs. Roy Baird and Mrs. Norman Moyer of Greenville; brother Earl Saul of Conneaut Lake, and 12 grandchil dren.

Born in Chattanooga, Mr. Metcalf lived in Akron 18 years. He was a self-employed mechanic and a veteran of World War II. He leaves his wife Opal; sons Almus and Patrick, and brother Glen, all of Chattnooga. Services will be at 1 p.m.

Davis lived in Akron 51 years. She leaves a daughter Mrs. Mildren Goins of Houston, Texas; sons William of Akron and Herman of Barberton, and four grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Services will be at 11 a. m.

MURRAY Henry C. Murray, 66, of 878 Saxon av. died Sunday in Akron General Hospital. Born in Bowling Green, Mr. Murray lived in Akron 38 years.

He retired in 1966 with 33 years' service at Goodrich. HE WAS a member of the Goodrich 20-Year Club. He leaves a daughter, Ellen, of Akron. Services will be at 1 p. m.

Wednesday. 4 Agencies 'Tell Facts On Adoptions The way to adoptions will be explored at 8 tonight when four family service agencies sponsor a public meeting at the First Congregational Church, 292 E. Market st. Occasion is the annual Children by Choice campaign, directed at potential adoptive parents in the community. Questions about procedures and requirements for adoption will be answered at tonight's meeting.

The Children by Choice campaign is sponsored by three United Fund agencies Family and Children's Service Society, Jewish Family Service, Catholic Service League and the tax-supported Child Welfare Board. They voted unanimously Sunday to continue working on a day-to-day basis.

While the URW has struck Firestone, B. F. Goodrich and Uniroyal idling 50,000 workers nationwide and 10,300 in the Akron area, Goodyear has continued operating while negotiators attempt to hammer out a new contract. Contracts between the URW and the four companies expired midnight April 20. ABOUT 1,800 of Local 2's 000 members packed Akron Armory Sunday to hear a report of "some progress" on negotiation, according to Local 2 Treasurer David McCann.

He said the membership gave the negotiating committee a vote of confidence. Reports of "very little progress" were presented to memberships of Firestone Local 7 and General Local 9. The URW contract with General expires May 15 and union members will vote Tuesday on whether to give their negotiators power to strike, if necessary, 1 to back demands. MEANWHILE, union and company negotiators returned to the bargaining tables today after a weekend recess. Firestone is meeting in Cleveland, Goodrich in Columbus and Goodyear and Uniroyal in Cincinnati.

Goodyear Local 2 President John Nardella requested his membership Sunday to donate to a strike assistance fund to help members of Firestone and Goodrich locals. Collections were to be made on each shift today. ELSEWHERE a URW local struck Goodyear at Apple Grove, W. after a contract expired a midnight Sunday. Woodrow Pyle, financial secretary of the local, said about 300 are employed at the plant which makes fiber resin for use in clothing and tires.

He said negotiations on a new contract started April 5, but no further sessions were schedueld after the talks ended two minutes before midnight Sunday. Neither Pyle nor local President Robert Albright would disclose the union demands and company negotiators declined comment.
