While working on his father's farm in Portage County, he began to grade roads with a horse-drawn slip scraper. His road work carried him into the Works Progress Administration (WPA) era when he began working on number of slag road projects, basement excavations and sewer and water line installations. DURING the 1950's, Miller's company became a major road construction firm.

His firm was responsible for the paving of the Ohio 224 in Summit and Portage counties and also the installation of storm sewers between Stow and Kent. His company never forgot the horse-drawn days. When heavy machine operators strike threatened an Akron urban renewal project in 1967, Miller's horse-drawn slip scraper was put back into business. The outmoded road scraper finished grading work. HIS FIRM was involved in many major road projects in Ohio and West Virginia including Interstates 77, 71, 271, and U.

S. 224. The firm presently is working on the S. High st. viaduct in Akron.
