Powers was bom in Akron, but resided in Tallmadge, home of her ancestors, for most of her life. She retired from Akron City Hospital with 20 years service in the Volunteer Department as a scheduler, and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge. Preceded in death by sister, Janice Koleta, she is survived by her husband, John Powers; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Les Corey, Julie and Curt Weller, Lisa and Ivan Stokich; sons, J. Michael Powers and David Powers; grandchildren, Shelby, Tracy, and Edward Stokich, Bryan and Jonathan Corey; sisters and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Leon Weis. and Karen Betty J.

Heepe Betty J. Heepe, 86, passed away July 14, 1999. A life resident of Akron, she was a graduate of the University of Akron, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She taught in the Akron school system for 39 years, retiring in 1973, was a member of Fairlawn West United Church of Christ, and was active with the Summit County Historical Society. Miss Heepe is survived by sister, Esther Purdy; and brother, William J.

Morris "Sid" Mann Morris "Sid" Mann, 76, of Akron, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 1999 at Akron City Hospital. He was bom July 28, 1922, in Akron, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Alabama.

Mr. Mann retired from Goodyear Tire Rubber was a member of the Springfield Local School Board for many years, and had served as its president. He was a member of Madeira Beach (Fla.) American Legion. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Madeline; daughter, Susan Adey; sons, Douglas and William Mann; brother, Bob Mann; grandchildren, Cart (Susan) and Nathan Adey. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Terrance Adey.

She was bom in Henry, W. and retired from B.F. Goodrich Tire Rubber Co. in 1972 with 37 years service. Mary was a member of St.

John the Baptist Catholic Church. Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by husband, James son, Lowell R. Hathaway; three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Genevieve and Charles Heflin of Hudson; sister, Elsie Pifel of Tallmadge; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Smith was a railroad conductor for 44 years, and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Grand Lodge of Ohio Cuyahoga Falls 735, el Zaribah Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S., Fountain Hills Masonic Square Club, V.F.W., the Men's Club, and a member of the Church of the Ascension. He is survived by his wife, Frances and daughter, Donna Smith-Waldron. A memorial service will be held Aug.

Alfred Sponds Alfred Sponds passed away July 12, 1999. Announcements later. (Stewart Calhoun, 535-1543.) Stafford Bishop "Tod" Sprague, Jr. NORFOLK, Va. Stafford Bishop 'Tod" Sprague, 53, of the 1000 block of Manteo Street, died July 12, 1999.

Mr. Sprague was a native of Hudson, Ohio, and had lived in Norfolk for the past 14 years. Mr. Sprague was an air traffic controller. An avid thrillseek-er, he was a pilot, skydiver, scuba diver, and rollercoaster enthusiast.

Mr. Sprague was a graduate of Howe Military Academy in Indiana, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include sisters, Diana Tucker and her husband, Phillip, of Hollister, Meredith Krenzel and her husband, John, of St. Louis, uncle, James Sanford of Wildwood, numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m.

He was bom in Bellaire, Ohio, and lived most of his life in Akron. He graduated from Buchtel High School, at age 18 fought with the 8th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II, then attended Kent State University. He retired from B.F.

Goodrich with 42 years of service, and was a member of in the Akron area. He was employed by Firestone Country Club for 37 years, retiring in 1981. He was also a farmer all of his life, and served during World War II in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Juanita; daughters, Linda (Bruce) Lombardi of Manchester, Christine (Danny) Beck of Canal Fulton, Gayle (Joe) Semansky of Barberton, and Judy Kiefl of Green; grandson, Corey David Beck of Canal Fulton.

He will also be missed by many loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, July 19, 1999, at 11 a.m., at the Schermesser Funeral Home, City of Green Chapel, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (Route 619). Calling hours will be Sunday, 6 to 9 p.m.

Sickles Donald E. Sickles, 52, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Visiting Nurse Hospice Care Center. and had also been a realtor. Jim attended the Canton Baptist Temple, was a World War II Navy Air Corps veteran, and was a former councilman for the Village of Hartville. He is survived by his wife, Jean son, Donald of Phoenix; daughter, Tina Mill-Pfenninger of France; brother, Melvin of New York; and grandchildren, Jeremy Mills, Jacqueline and Etienne Pfenninger.

(Katie) Mitchell Henrietta R. (Katie) Mitchell, 84, passed away July 14, 1999, at Akron General Medical Center. Bom in McConnellsburg, Katie was a resident of Copley 40 years. Katie was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved life and especially caring for her flower gardens.

Henrietta is survived by her husband, Marshall; daughter and son-in-law, Mona and David Renninger of Sutter, son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Barbara Mitchell of Akron; four grandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren. He was on a one-year assignment in Iceland and had returned home July 4th for a three-week leave.
