While in Cbillicotbe, a few days since we availed ourselves of an opportunity of visiting the tine farm of uen. Wortamgton which is located about two miles north of the city upon ihe high grounds that overlook the beautiful valley of ibe Scioto. This farm contains seven or eight hundred acres of the best land in the garden of Ohio, well supplied with the purest water, and adorned with magni6cent groves of forest trees, ruit of the choicest kind and of every variety are to be found in the spa-cioui orchards, for there are several, while the grape and the melon vine that were growing luxuriantly on every hand, satisfied as that the General would never suffer frjm the want of frieudly visitors during the grape aud melon season. Figs from the land of Smyrna, frijoles from the plains of Mexico, and peas from the semi-civilized country, of Japan, flourish iu his cultivated gardens, objects of curiosity to the straiiger, and of pride and gratification to the well cultivated tasfe of the General. A large stone mansion built for durability comfort and convenience by h's ancestor, the late Gov.

Wortliington, stands Hpon a bluff from the top of which may be seon the country all up and down the winding Scioto, that in our humble opinion sun asseth any thing seen on this side Of Jordan. Fronting the farm on the east, at the foot of the hill, is a lake constructed by the vJeneral himself, from a marshy piece of ground containing about fifteen acres which now stocked with various kinds of fishes that await his pleasure whenever he may elioose to have them served up at his A large tee house, built upon the vtrge if the lake, stands conveniently ready to receive the frozen liquid into its capacious maw whenever old winter, with his hoary locks, may choose to present the offering; from his receptacle of one of the chief luxuries of stint nler, the General is enabled to supply the wants of the people of Chillico-tlie during the hot season. At a convenient distance from the tempting waters of this beautiful lake, the milk of fifty short horn Durhams is kept, from tlie sale of which alone, the past year the General realized the snug sum of four dollars. But we have said enough to give an i lea of the homestead of the President of the State Board of Agriculture; especially iu we are half inclined to suspect that the people who will be fortunate enough to visit the next State Fair, will have an opportunity of judging from the specimens there pi es ented, something of the productions of the highly cultivated farm of Winde-mere. Facts about Cattle- It is a fact that all domestic animals can be improved in size and value.

One hundred and fifty years ago the average weight i cattle at the Smithtield market was not over 370 pounds, and that of the sheep 28 pouuds. Now, the average weight ot the lormer is over 800 pounds, and of the latter 80 pounds. The average weight of cattle properly termed beeves, in Kew York market, is about 800 pounds, and that of sheep 50 pounds. The average live weight of the heaviest iliovc of beeves, of 100 in number, evet thought to this market, was 2,067 pounds, S. eighed from dry feeding in Illinois last spring.

The mode of selling cattle in New York is at so much per pound, for the estimated i. eight of meat, contained in the four quarters. The estimation is made upon the Me weight of cattle as follows: A drover buying a lot of grass fed com-i. stock of Illinois should never calculate to get an estimate of over one half here u. the live weight there; that is if they average 12 cwt, they will make cwt, of 1 1.

eat each. Medium beeves my be estimated at 55 pounds per cwt; good beeves at 56 or 57 jjnunds extra good, large fat, from 58 to i 2 lbs. per cwt. In the Boston market the weight is generally estimated upon "five quarters;" that is, the product of the meat tat and skin. There the cattle are generally weighed and the product estimated upon an average, 1 i pounds per cwt.

In New York not one bullock in ten-thousand goes upon the scales to determine Lis price to the butcher. N. Y. Tribune. Crops in Southern Nebraska- The plentiful showers with which we li.ive here been blessed from time to time luring the last fifteen dajs, have secured us the most unparalleled crops.

Sod orn will yield, iu Otoe and Cass counties, o.i an average, at least thirty-five or forty iiushels to the acre, and some of it will i each fifty. The Spring wheat as far as heard from, has yielded well, say 20 bush-' to the acre. We believe that there is no Stale in the Union can boast of a soil superior to that of tiouthern Nebraska. Kebraika City TrimmC Trees. As soon as haying is over fruit trees of all kinds may be trimmed.

Now is Ihe time to expect the wounds to beal rapidly as the trees make wood fast at this season. Never cut off large limbs from fruit trees unless you hoose to induce premature decay. You cannot do worse than cut off large limbs. If there are too many of them, let then remain while you thin out the twigs that are not too large to hear fruit. Let no man with heavy boots climb your trees Pliable shoes are much better than boots.

Mail in boots may do to go on ice, but they are quite too hard for the limbs and bark of fruit trees. Massachusttts Plow-man. Devon ik Lorain. Charles A. Ely.
